Ridgefield is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States Ridgefield was first settled by English colonists from Norwalk and Milford in 1708, and officially incorporated in 1709. The town is situated in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, about 40 miles (64 km) northeast of New York City. Ridgefield's 300-year-old central village has been designated as a historic district by the Ridgefield Historic District Commission. The town had a population of 25,033 at the 2020 census. The town center, which was formerly a borough, is defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place. Ridgefield is home to the Ridgefield Playhouse, an intimate 740-seat live theatre that presents more than 200 performances annually and attracts over 100,000 patrons per year.
